I wonder how many people on this website actually need to use Photoshop CC or even the camera gear they own and would be perfectly fine using an earlier version and just a cellphone. I have always been fascinated by computers and have always built my own with the exception of the Atari computers.
All through the years since people have asked why someone would need more than this size hard drive, or a faster video card, or a bigger screen, or a faster processor, etc etc. This is a question that goes back to my first computer in 1979.
I can't help you with a video card recommendation but I do wonder how and why you are going to utilise these 10 bits in still photography? Heavy processing will show banding on jpgs but if you are processing raw then you have to be doing extreme processing to induce banding. If you are into video with something like the GH5, which can capture in 10 bit, and are doing extensive colour grading then 10 bits is a good idea. Are there any newer high end video cards from AMD or Nvidia that can do 10 bit color in PS and function as a decent video card for games and movies or is the 6000 the best compromise? I do some video with Premiere Pro, photos with Photoshop, and watch movies and sometimes play games. I'm thinking of getting a Nvidia Quadro 6000 at under $200 USD (yes I know old tech).
My budget is around $375.00 USD and I have a DYI computer with 32 gigs of ram, an intel i7 2600 3.40GHz, and PCIe 2.0 slots running windows 10 pro 64-bit. I have a 10 bit Eizo monitor so going with anything less would be a foolish waste of money spent on the monitor.
I hope this will help you and any others trying to use Alien Skin software with Xara. After much searching it still isn't clear which video cards are capable of doing 10 bit color in photoshop cs6. All you need to know is that applications plugin directory and you are good to go.
But the short story is that following the linked to instructions will allow you to install the plugins to a host application that we don't officially support. So I won't bore you with the details here. There's already a support article which describes the process in full. Fortunately, there's a much easier way to get our plugins installed with any host application you would like, it's just not heavily advertised. While, officially, we only support Photoshop CS5, CS6 and Elements 10 and 11 as host applications there are many other applications that implement Adobe's plugin API that enable our products to work fine in most cases.
I just wanted to pipe in with a little help. Hi, I work for Alien Skin and am one of the programmers responsible for the UI in Eye Candy 7. But the good news is if you have a host program that the Eye Candy installer recognizes you can manually install the plug in into Xara's plug ins directory and they work perfectly!. First the not so good news is that Alien Skin seems to have changed the way that the software installs and if you don't select a reconizable host for the installer to install into it won't work. Hi Mike, I have good news and not so good news. if your xara program is open close it and restart it your Eye Candy plug in should show up in the plug ins list. while still in the program files browse down to Xara and find your version of xara, in the xara program files open the xara picture editor folder and in there open the PSplugins folder and paste the EC 7 folder.ĥ. browse to the plug in location of the host program where you installed the EC plug in and open the Alien Skin folder and inside that you'll find a folder marked Eye Candy 7 copy this folder to the clipboardĤ.
once the installation is complete browse to the program files ( x86 if you have windows7) note: I don't have windows 8 to check but I'm guessing this would be much the same.ģ. install the plug in to a host in the list you see in the first installation panel in the EC set up ( in my case I am using PSE9)Ģ.
